Miss Pole Dance Japan (Picture and video heavy post)

Submitted by Raziel on Tuesday, 28 October 20083 Comments

EAF presents Ms Pole Dance Japan, Reiko Suemune! She’s Japan own pole mistress who won the coveted title of Miss Pole Dance World 2005. Now if you think that’s pretty old, it’s not because the championship is a pretty new one. It began in 2005 and the first championship was hosted by Amsterdam, Holland, so I guess that also makes Ms Suemune the first Ms Pole Dance World as well!

Sure there was some controversy about how she got the title. The original winner was Elena Gibson from England. But she was disqualified for ‘stripping’. (See more photos and watch the videos after the jump)

You see, the purpose of the Ms Pole Dance championship is to promote the dance as a sport, a form of exercise and not as sleazy entertainment so they have strict regulations in place to ensure that it’s all done tastefully. Stripping is stripping, even if it is just removing a few pieces of clothing and shoes (as in Elena Gibson’s case).

Now I know lots of people are going to say but stripping is the whole point of pole dancing…EAF says not exactly and we agree with Ms Pole Dance World. Pole Dancing is a very strenuous exercise and a complicated sport. If you pay attention, you’ll see how pole dancers of these level incorporate the skills of an acrobat and gymnast into their routines. Takes a lot of strength to be able to lift yourself up like that!

Here’s Ms Gibson to show you a few advance poses so you can see for yourself what makes Pole Dancing just as amazingly elegant a sport as rhythmic gymnastics and ballet:

Isn’t it strange how one exercise can fall into 2 completely different categories (Sleaze or Sport), all depending on how the performer dresses (or undresses)? But you know what else is funny? From these pictures and the videos below, I’d see Ms Gibson more like a ballerina (hey style is very elegant) and Ms Suemune more as the likely culprit for stripping. Talk about irony!

Yes, ironic indeed. What they are saying is that they’d rather disqualify someone who would never be described by anything related to “stripper” by anyone who has watched her performance, and give the title to someone who seem best at shaking her booty and really did a more sleazy number. Jazzin’ up a performance by removing items of clothing (which many poledancers do these days – after all, one cannot wear a huge amount poledancing, but why can’t they start with a bit more clothing?) is disqualifiable?!!!

Elena will always remain the rightful first ever world champion for poledancing.
