2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony – 15 FACTS

Some more facts are out about the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony besides these details of the opening ceremony.

1. The ceremony begins at 8:00pm Beijing time on 08/08/08.

2. West end star Sarah Brightman will perform.

3. China’s most versatile singer, Liu Huan, will perform.

4. It won’t rain…at least, not heavily.

5. The gala will last 3.5 hours.

6. The lyrics of the theme song were written and composed by Chinese artists.

7. There will be a one hour “main” performance, divided into two parts.

8. There will be a Chinese scroll painting at one point.

9. About 15,000 performers will join in.

10. International audience of over 4 billion is expected.

11. Parade, speeches, oath-taking as usual

12. pigeons and Olympic flame lighting as usual

13. 30,000 “shells” will be shot into the sky above Olympic green. “Duck!”

14. Countries will enter in order of the number of strokes it takes to write their countries’ name in Chinese hanzi.

15. Guinea, with just two strokes needed, is first behind traditional Greece.

16. A few advertisers are going to spend enough money to buy a professional sports team for a 30 second spot on TV.
