Studying in Japan (part 2)

Japan has seen a huge increase in international students (+54% ) since 1998. And yet, thanks to a declining Japanese population, the odds for first year students to enroll in a Japanese university are about 100%…
If you have read part 1 of this post and know which university you want to apply to, it is very likely you’ll have to write an application letter. Here are some tips to get you started.
- Be professional. Japanese do not use conversational styles in formal letters.
- At the top of the letter, write the date (in traditional year-month-day format) and the address of the university.
- Japanese do not get straight to the point, not even in business letters. Start with an introduction saying something about the weather or asking how they are.
- Give a brief introduction of who you are.
- Explain why you choose this particular university & subject
- Write what an excellent student you are, e.g: why they should choose you.
- Finish thanking the reader for his/her time and let them know how to reach you.
Good luck!
