Job searchers in China say - job discrimination comes with the territory in China’s cutthroat job market.
About 85% of more than 3,400 respondents from 10 big cities in China said that job discrimination was a ‘way of life in jobs.’
58% of the respondents thought the discrimation was severe.

The top reasons for discrimination:
1. Appearance
2. height
3. gender
4. marital status
Other reasons – an unlucky name. A prospective driver with 10 years of experience could not get a job because his last name meant “rush” making him prone to accidents.
Civil servants are usually required to have a ‘pleasant personality.’ That one should be required everywhere.
The Chinese law on discrimination “states that laborers shall not be discriminated against, regardless of their ethnicity, race, sex, or religious beliefs. But it does not elaborate on any of these points.”
The job market is tough for the average worker in China…managers? That’s a different story.
Have you experienced discrimination when looking for a job in China? Anywhere?
