Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 27 August 2010No Comment

China seems to be trying hard to crackdown on pirated material. At least that’s what the news reports are saying.

In a 100-day anti-piracy campaign China:

1. seized 58 million illegal publications

2. closed down Four pirated DVD production linesstop piracy.jpg

3. Investigated 10,000 cases of IP theft

An army of more than 880,000 state workers representing the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Public Safety and eight other departments led the way.

In one province, 34,900 pirated preschool textbooks were found.

In another, 10,000 pirated audio and video products were seized.

One such pirate was sentenced to life imprisonment and had four million yuan worth of his personal property seized.

A Chinese porn dealer was also sentenced to life imprisonment.

An official with the State Press and Publication Administration says gangs involved in piracy are now ‘terrified.’

Life imprisonment?

What do you think?
