China’s Ups and Downs

Submitted by Bill Belew on Sunday, 5 October 2008No Comment

Apparently 10% or better growth is too much, even for China. 8% is the target for this year.

Last year China’s consumer price index was UP 1.5% from 2005

China’s spending on rural development was UP 14% from 2005 to 42.2 billion yuan.

Urban per capita disposable income was UP 10.4% to 11,759 yuan.

Rural per capita disposable income was UP 7.4% to 3,587 yuan.

China’s economy is UP to the fourth largest in the world.

China’s energy consumption was DOWN 1.8% but short of the goal of a 4% decline.

Sulfur dioxide emissions were NOT DOWN, but up 1.8% from the previous year missing the goal of a decline by 2%.

Chemical Oxygen Demand was NOT DOWN, but UP 1.2% also missing the 2% decline target.

The World Bank is predicting a 9.6% growth.

One or the other or perhaps both will be wrong.

How much do you think China will grow this year?
