4 Reasons why China shot down its own weather satellite

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 28 June 2010No Comment

China became the first country in more than 20 years to shoot down one of its own satellites. The US was the last to do so in 1985.

China doesn’t generally care what other countries think about its action…nor what its people think either. The missile shot still hasn’t been reported in China.

But there are reasons why China would take such actions.

1. China wants the rest of the world to know that it has a modern military. Remember the Jian-10 unveiled last month? China is also planning to build nuclearballistic%20missile.jpg powered submarines and aircraft carriers in hopes of becoming a ‘blue water’ fleet.

2. China wants to remind the world it is a global power. India and South Korea have plans to send astronauts into space. Japan continues to develop its missile capabilities. And North Korea…is well, North Korea.

3. China wants the US to participate in an international conference to discuss the acceleration of a space arms race. If the US and Japan proceed with their plans to build a missile defense system, China wants a say in it.

4. China wants to show the world what it can do if it wants to. The Beijing Olympics are coming up. China can do more than host sporting events.

Why else would China shoot down its own satellite?

What do you think?
