Cesar Cielo cried tears of joy. If you can catch him, you can tell him he is a sissy.

The 50 meter gold medal was the first ever for Brazil. Cesar is way happy, and I am way happy for him.

Call me a sissy, I can take it. What an expression of emotion and a release from so much work. Four years was finished in less than 22 seconds. If time was a measurement of value in swimming, everybody would swim the mile – 1500. Not Cesar.

He’s the fastest man in the water.

Congrats to Cesar and to Brazil. Brazilians have something else to be proud of besides soccer.

In just a couple of days, one of 1.3 billion people will light the fire to ignite the Beijing Olympic Games. Liu Xiang, the world record holder in the 110 meters hurdle and China’s first track and field gold medalist is high on the list of candidates. Problem is, Liu Xiang is still an active athlete and under extreme (is there a more intense word? If so, insert here and put x10 behind it) pressure to produce another gold medal for the home team. So…he might be home warming up, stretching or otherwise getting ready to win his event by 1/100th of a second or more if he can.

Other candidates include a victim of the recent earthquake. Yao Ming is a candidate. BOCOG can save money by making a shorter torch. And Yao could probably reach the cauldron without leaving the basketball arena.

Athletes have lit the fire in the past. Here’s a list -

Berlin 1936 – Fritz Schilgen – Athletics
London 1948 – John Mark – Athletics
Helsinki 1952 – Hannes Kolehmainen – Athletics
Melbourne 1956 – Ron Clarke – Athletics
Rome 1960 – Giancarlo Peris – Athletics
Tokyo 1964 – Yoshinori Sakaï – Schoolchild
Mexico City 1968 – Norma Enriqueta Basilio de Sotelo – Athletics
Munich 1972 – Günter Zahn – Athletics (junior)
Montreal 1976 РSandra Henderson and St̩phane Pr̩fontaine РAthletics (juniors)
Moscow 1980 – Sergei Belov – Basketball
Los Angeles 1984 – Rafer Johnson – Athletics
Seoul 1988 – Chung Sun-Man, Kim Won-Tak, Sohn Mi-Chung – Athletics
Barcelona 1992 – Antonio Rebollo – Archery
Atlanta 1996 – Muhammad Ali – Boxing
Sydney 2000 – Cathy Freeman – Athletics
Athens 2004 – Nikolaos Kaklamanakis – Sailing

Not sure who it will be, but my guess, it’ll be an athlete of some sort. Or maybe a panda.

The thrill of victory!

I don’t particularly care for games where someone loses and someone wins. I like the endurance races where someone might go faster or longer, but everyone wins for just having participated. The losers are those who didn’t even try.

Singapore’s female table tennis team Li Jia Wei and Wang Yue won their semifinal match and are now ensured of at least a silver medal. The mighty Chinese team stands in the way of a Gold.

The last time anybody from the 4.6 million populated Singapore wone a medal was a silver in men’s weightlifting in 1960.

South Korea has an opportunity for a bronze against Hong Kong or China, depending on the outcome of that semifinal match.

“We will get a silver at least. I’m extremely satisfied and give my team a full mark,” said the Singaporean coach.

“We will try our best to play China in the final though they are much stronger than us. To win or to lose, we are successful because my team is the best besides China.”

I recommend he tell his girls about bumblebees, not their opponent.

Everybody loves somebody, sometime. La, la, la.

When Michael is not in the pool five hours a day or taking five hours a day to consume 10,000 calories so he can go back to the pool, he has to spend his time with some one. Or some ones. Or, does he?

There are two girls that are rumored to be Phelps’ only distraction from winning gold medals.

One is Amanda Beard. Amanda Beard is an Olympian and a swimmer, too.

The other is Lily Donaldson, ranked as one of the top 8 models in the fashion world. Donaldson is the new face that took over from Kate Moss.

No matter, neither one of them has distracted Phelps from his quest to win 8 gold medals. Just one more.

Who do you think is a good match for Phelps?

Michael Phelps, Â the Olympic gold medal swimming champion, Â was involved in a traffic accident in Baltimore, Maryland, on Thursday night, but was uninjured, according to the police. The police say that Michael Phelps’ black Cadillac Escalade rammed into another vehicle at a junction at about 9 p.m. The female driver of the second vehicle was taken to a local hospital as a preventative measure.

The two other passengers in Phelp’s car were also uninjured. The authorities would determine whether alcohol was involved in the crash, as it is standard procedure for any crash. Phelps who has won eight gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, was suspended from organized competitive swimming earlier this year, after he was photographed holding a ‘bong’ in February.

It would be funnier if it couldn’t be true. After a chuckle, well, I actually laughed out loud, I began to think, that if it were required to win a gold medal, Michael Phelps could probably do it.

So, who’s that trailing him…Bernard the French guy? The rest of the world?

I am surprised there is anybody else in the cartoon. That would imply that somebody can get that close to Phelps in the water.

Great fun watching Phelps, no?

Well, I enjoyed it.

What part of the Olympic games are you enjoying?
