Playboy Wins in Indonesia

Submitted by Bill Belew on Wednesday, 14 July 2010No Comment

In a victory for ‘press freedom’ Playboy Indonesia was cleared of distributing indecent pictures to the public and making money of the pictures.

About 85% of Indonesia’s 220 million people follow Islam. However, most Muslims are moderate and don’t mind reading FHM, MAXIM and PLAYBOY.

None of the rags have nude pictures. After the verdict, Playboy Indonesia’s editor in chief vowed, “Playboy Indonesia would never publish nudity.”

Suddenly…everyone wanted to know what the fuss was all about.

No skin? Then what’s the big deal?indonesia.playboy.jpg

In a “wider debate over morality in Indonesia, lawmakers have been discussing a bill on pornography, which aims to shield the young from pornographic material and lewd acts.”

Some of the drafts are forbidding such lewd acts as kissing in public.

Not everything the West wants to export is worth having.

I am not for limiting press freedom, but I also think that not everything that can be printed should be printed.

With freedom comes responsibility.

Do you think there should be limits on pornography?
