Nike T-Shirt Contains Sexual Innuendo – Leads to Refund

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 23 August 2010No Comment

Nike Inc said it would give a refund to a woman from Beijing who bought a Nike T-shirt in Europe and later learned it contained a sexual innuendo.

The T-shirt -  “I like being on top.”

The 40-year old woman didn’t know about the connotation until a professor from her tourism group persuaded her to change it because the words were embarrassing.

He told her the message meant “she wanted sex.”

Uh…prof…sorry…that’s not what it means. It’s more like a preference in a

More... position when having sex…but that’s not the point I guess.nike-t-shirt.jpg

The woman, ashamed figured the shirt’s meaning had something to do with people smiling weirdly and whistling at her.

Nike says the t-shirt is sold globally but noone esle has complained.

Nike also said they would refund the woman the price of the t-shirt.

Well…I like being on top…and it has nothing to do with sex.

Why do you think Nike uses slogans that can be construed in such a way on their  t-shirts?
