Mikhail Gorbachev

I don’t know why but I liked Mikhail Gorbachev. Maybe it’s because he was such a graceful loser, a loser in the arms race that is. Beyond that, he’s a winner.

Mikhail Gorbachev will be remembered as the the LEADER who brought openness (glasnost) and economic restructuring (prestroika) to the then Soviet Union.

He helped usher in the end of communism in the Soviet Bloc. He also helped set Russia on the course it is on today.

All Russians owe Mikhail a spacebo (not placebo)- Thank you!

Were it not for Gorbachev, Russians would still be missing two-three meals a week (I did when I was there ) and would be wondering when the heat was going to be turned on. ( I took ice showers in Siberia in late fall.)

Gorbachev recently said “77% of Russians say they want to live in a free and democratic country. This is the legacy of perestroika.”

“The people who don’t like the new Russia are the old ruling class, the former communists, veterans” – he also said.

Yeah, those old goats had their turn. Now it’s time for the new Russia.

Spacebo boloshoi, Mr. Gorbachev for helping out your country and the world.
