Submitted by Samron Jude on Friday, 23 April 2010No Comment

The President of Taiwan says the number of people killed in mudslides and floods caused by a typhoon could go above 500, with almost 400 of them in a one village alone.

Hsiaolin was knocked by an enormous mudslide that covered all houses (except for 2), and according to the officials, those who are missing in the village were in all probability buried alive.

The official death toll as of now has already reached117, but there are fears that it is much higher.

On Friday, the military expects to airlift out the approximately 2,000 people who remain stranded in the neighboring areas.

Taiwan’s worst flooding for 50 years was caused by last weekend’s typhoon.
