Three Luxury Hotel Chains Eye Chinese Market
Luxury hotels are moving into the Chinese market…and not just into the key cities, but also the second-tier markets.
Expectations are that as incomes rise in China there will be more travelers throughout the country.
Jumeirah Group from the United Arab Emirates, which runs the world’s most luxurious hotel Burj Al Arab in Dubai, will open its first China hotel – the 338-room HanTang Jumeirah Shanghai – in Xintiandi in July 2008.
The Middle Eastern luxury hotel group is also considering tapping into more Chinese cities such as Beijing and Hong Kong as well as Hainan island.
Conrad Hotels & Resorts, a luxury brand under Hilton Hotels Corporation will open its first mainland facility in Shanghai as soon as next year. Beijing and Macau are
also in the works.
Kempinski, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel firm hopes to further boost its role as a major player in the Chinese market by opening hotels in Shanghai, Hohhot, Huizhou, Qingdao, Tianjin, Wuxi, Xi’an, Suzhou, Guiyang and Yinchuan within three to four years.
No doubt I am missing something as I have never stayed in a luxury hotel. I can’t figure out why people do. After all, don’t they just sleep there?
What am I missing by not staying in these five star joints?
