Raining cats and dogs: monsoon causes floods

Submitted by Terya on Saturday, 3 January 2009No Comment

The monsoon period in among others Asia gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “It’s raining cats and dogs”. When you speak of “heavy rain” it means the water is pouring from the skies so hard that it sounds like a percussion group is banging their drums in your living room.

Naturally, this can’t happen without causing the necessary floods – like the one on above’s picture in Malaysia’s rural area. The rain started on Friday early afternoon and didn’t stop until Saturday evening. Hundreds of people were evacuated from their kampung (village).

The rain has stopped momentarily, but many area’s are still in a danger zone. It is uncertain when the villagers will be able to return home.
