About Urban Legends, ghosts and beings: ferotni…

Submitted by Terya on Thursday, 4 December 2008One Comment

No, that’s not a typing error, the word is really ferotni. There are many urban legends and especially ghost stories in Asia. Stories travel, so it’s hard to tell where the story once started. But the tale of ferotni’s is mostly told in Bangladesh, where sunset really means all goes dark and there’s hardly any living soul out on the streets…

So, what exactly is a ferotni? Differing from storyteller to storyteller, the ferotni is a woman that died, but didn’t “pass on” to the next world. Instead, they turn into hideous creatures and dwell in the world of the living. They hide in trees, where they prey on those unwise persons that choose to be out after dark. Girls especially are warned. Because the ferotni is jealous of their hair, she/it will try to pull it out! Defending yourself means you are signing your own death sentence: if you touch a ferotni, she will come back at night to kill you…

So, true or not? This time, I will leave it up to yourself to decide…
