The Magic Fundoshi!
If you still don’t know your fundoshi, then obviously you must have skipped ‘Know your Fundoshi!’ But we’re nice people here at EAF so we’ll wait patiently while you go back there and get updated.
The Magic Fundoshi is a hilarious comedy play by W!ld Rice, a brilliant Singaporean theatrical company founded by Ivan Heng. The Magic Fundoshi is a parody of the East meets the Emperors New Clothes.
The story is simple but it sparkles through it’s naughty wits. In brief this is how the story goes:
The main character is Taro-Kaja and like many great men of his peers, he has a mistress! One day after a loving session, he unwittingly leaves behind his fundoshi at his mistress’ home (now I can see a man forgetting his tie but his underwear? Puzzling…) and finds himself in the most awkward situation to find a replacement piece before his dear wife discovers his infidelity.
I guess desperation leads to genius because our dear Taro-Kaja soons cooks up a cunning strategy to trick a passing samurai into giving up his fundoshi in exchange for a ‘magic’ one which is only visible to adoring female eyes!
Watch funny scenes from the play:
Now Raz thinks the Samurai should want magic ones that are visible only to the un-adoring male eyes but I guess wanting the opposite is just part of the fun behind The Magic Fundoshi!
Aren’t fundoshis just the best! You can wear them and now even make hit plays about them!
