Russia Wars of Arms Race in Space on 50th Anniversary of Sputnik

On the anniversary of Sputnik, the space military commander in Russia vowed to retaliate with an arms race if any country tried to put weapons into orbit.

“We need to have strong rules about space, to avoid its militarization and if any country will place a weapon in space, then our response will be the same,” Space Forces Commander Colonel-General Vladimir Popovkin told the newspaper Trud.

Russia’s President Putin has given notice that Russia will pull out a treaty limiting conventional forces in Europe in the face of NATO’s expansion to Russia’s borders.

The United States also is reconsidering the “Star Wars” missile defense shields.sputnik.jpg

Russia has more than 60 military and dual-purpose satellites in orbit for communications and intelligence.

And…I think I heard a laughter coming from the grave of…was that Ronald Reagan.

Just let Russia try to compete with America in an arms race, space race or otherwise.
