Eight Tibetan Monks vs. Toddler

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 6 October 2008No Comment

Some knotheaded mother let her toddler slip under a rope at the Kansas City train station to play in the pretty sand.

The sand was a mandala that eight Tibetan Monks had spend two days cross-legged on the floor, meticously preparing as an expression of their Buddhist faith.

The mother, who had come to mail a package, went after the little tike, grabbed him by the arm and walked out of camera range.

The monks…”no problem. we have three days more. So we will have to work harder.”

The mandala they were working on represents Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of compassion….something the woman and her little tike had zero of.

The monks are on a mission to raise money for their monastery which was destroyed by the Chinese. They are also learning firsthand what kind of patience is required to deal with insensitive people in the real world.

Why am I not surprised first at the actions of the toddler and then his mother acting more like a child than he?
