Chinese Films’ 8 Items of Censorship - “Lost in Beijing”

Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 3 October 2008No Comment

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has created a list of activities that canNOT be shown in Chinese films.

1. hardcore activities

2. rape

3. whoring

4. obscene sex exposing human genitals

5. sex freaks

6. vulgar conversations

7. nasty songs

8. sound effects with sexual connotation

“The heaviest punishment for such violation would lead to a five-year ban of perpetrators from the movie industry,” according to the ban.

Directors and leading actors taking part in such films will be ineligible for any

awards.

The movie “Lost in Beijing” caused its producer to receive a two-year ban from making movies because of pornographic scenes used in its advertisements.lost.in.beijing.jpg

That, despite 10 minutes of pornographic scenes being cut.

In the story of the struggles of migrant workers, the lead actress was at one point raped by her boss.

Chinese mainland stars, Fan Bingbing and Tang Dawei, are cast in the movie.

The film’s producers used the cut scenes from the original copy in advertisements and also spread the deleted scenes on the Internet.

Now, it’ll be two years before they can do any more harm.

Perhaps by then, the restrictions will be more relaxed. Or not.

Do you think Chinese censorship is too strict?
