“Lust Caution” Spurns Debate on Sex and Politics
“Lust, Caution” has spurned ongoing debates in China about sex and politics.
What? No religion, too?
The film has grossed Y100 million in two weeks in China.
Sex scenes and the lack thereof and its political undertones are NOT the essence of the discussions on forums.
The film rating system in China is the focal point.
“The true meaning of the film’s screening in the Chinese mainland lies in renewing the debate of the rating system,” says one critic.
“Why can’t we see the sex scenes that the rest of the world gets to

Others - “It is a political movie full of political metaphors … it is an insult to virtuous Chinese women,” said one movie director.
Seven Beijing-based university students labeled the film an “obscene poison.”
They accused the film of “degrading Chinese women martyrs into prostitutes and worshipping pro-Japanese traitors”.
And the moviemakers…they don’t care. They just want people to come watch.
Have you seen “Lust, Caution?”
